15th January 2010
The 157 Group today congratulates students on their record Level 3 success. Hours of dedication from students and staff alike has resulted in record levels of achievement.
Lynne Sedgmore Executive Director of the 157 Group said:
"Congratulations to all those students who are celebrating today. Level 3 qualifications require hard work and dedication and it is a testament to individual aspiration that we have seen such strong results across the country."
Sedgmore added:
"As Executive Director of the 157 Group I am particularly delighted that 157 Colleges feature so highly in the GFE Level 3 results league table, most notably Newcastle College topping the list. This is a real testament to the work of our lecturers and senior leaders, and is additionally impressive when you consider the wide ranging nature of their provision."
Frank McLoughlin Chair of the 157 Group said:
"Today is a day of celebration. I am both impressed and motivated by today's published results and am particularly pleased that the results highlight the vital role that Further Education Colleges play in delivering Level 3 qualifications. Too often the sector is forgotten at times such as these times and I welcome the opportunity to celebrate all of our success"

Notes to editors:
- The 157 group represents 28 of the most influential Colleges in the FE sector.
- It was formed in 2006 in response to paragraph 157 of Sir Andrew Foster's report on the future of further education colleges in which he argued that principals of large successful colleges should play a greater role in policymaking.
