157 Group congratulates outstanding FE staff recognised in New Year Honours List 2012

 ---BEGINS---

157 Group executive director Lynne Sedgmore CBE has congratulated three outstanding members of staff from 157 Group member colleges who received Orders of the British Empire in the New Year Honours List 2012.

Geoff Hall, former principal of New College Nottingham received a Knighthood while Richard Chambers, recently retired as principal of Lambeth College and David Croll, principal of Derby College both received OBEs.

Lynne Sedgmore said; "On behalf of the 157 Group I would like to wholeheartedly congratulate these outstanding principals rightly acknowledged by the government for their contributions to further education and skills. The Orders reflect the passion and commitment of the recipients in championing learning and reinforce the significance that further education powerfully contributes to overall communities. I would also like to congratulate all other further education staff that have been recognised this year."

Marilyn Hawkins, principal of Barnet and Southgate College and chair of the 157 Group added; "We are delighted that the hard work and efforts of staff in this sector have been recognised. As peers I have worked with in the 157 Group, I would personally like to thank Geoff, Richard and David for their invaluable contributions, commitment and hard work in this sector. This is a fantastic start to the New Year for the 157 Group members and the sector as a whole."

 ---About the 157 Group---

The 157 Group represents 27 of the most influential colleges in the FE sector. It was formed in 2006 in response to paragraph 157 of Sir Andrew Foster's report on the future of further education colleges, in which he argued that principals of large successful colleges should play a greater role in policymaking.
