157 Group publishes international discussion paper Doing more for less

---BEGINS---

The 157 Group has launched its latest publication, an international dialogue entitled Doing more for less. This new discussion paper is the product of a roundtable discussion in November 2010 when member colleges of RC-2020 united with 157 colleges at the Edexcel offices in London to participate in an international dialogue. Colleges from all corners of the globe discussed common challenges, in particularly the challenge of having to do more with less resources, shared strategies and insights into how they are rising to current issues in the FE sector.

Lynne Sedgmore CBE, executive director of the 157 Group, said, "Our discussion paper is a wonderful example of colleges learning and collaborating with one another for the greater good of international development. It was invaluable for our member colleges to work alongside the RC-2020 colleges and interesting to see that colleges from very different cultures share common challenges. The colleges were able to draw inspiration from one another and worked hard throughout the day to share innovative and intelligent solutions to the issues they face, now and into the future."

Frank McLoughlin CBE, chair of the 157 Group and principal of City and Islington College, said, "City and Islington College took great pleasure in hosting the RC-2020 colleges during their stay in London. Together our colleges demonstrated creativity, determination and enthusiasm in working with one another to explore common challenges and share innovative strategies. It was inspiring to see how dedicated our colleges are to their learners, local communities and economies."

Dr Rufus Glasper, president of RC-2020 Inc and chancellor at Maricopa Community College District in the US, said, "It's such a fabulous privilege to have had the opportunity to share our ideas and best practices with the 157 Group. We recognise that these are challenging times for all these countries to become more effective and efficient, while at the same time being asked to be more productive. Doing more for less is the invaluable product of our insightful dialogue."
