The 157 Group and The Pacific Institute® publish thinkpiece on the importance of culture for leaders in Further Education
15th May 2013
The 157 Group is today releasing a thinkpiece produced in conjunction with The Pacific Institute®. Aimed at leaders in FE Colleges, it describes the importance of developing a constructive culture in order to effect organisational change. Alongside content derived from leadership theory, the publication contains insights from several successful College Principals who are members of the 157 Group.
Lynne Sedgmore, executive director of the 157 Group, said, "Culture is absolutely critical to quality improvement within any organisation and Colleges are no exception. Professional teachers and support staff need to know that they are able to plan for themselves, take risks and learn from mistakes in a genuine learning organisation. We know that this is the case, and yet many organisations still operate in a more defensive style, where perfection is the constant goal and staff fight shy of taking the initiative. This publication not only describes why this should change but also offers some ways in which it can happen."
Dr Neil Straker, chief executive of The Pacific Institute UK®, said, "The Pacific Institute (TPI) has a 40 year track record of working with organisations in the areas of personal and collective efficacy, leadership, team and overall performance. TPI is now firmly established as a global leader in developing positive organisational cultures and successful outcomes. TPI works in over 50 countries, consulting with clients in business and across the public sector. In the UK, its work in the education sector is highly acclaimed. This publication outlines some of the approaches taken by successful leaders during that journey, and it has been good to hear the views of 157 Group Principals as we have put the thinkpiece together."
