The 157 Group comments on International Education Strategy

29th July 2013

The 157 Group is pleased to see the launch this morning of the government's new International Education Strategy. Over 5,000 international students attended 157 Group member colleges last year, and this number is rising.

Lynne Sedgmore said, "It is positive that the strategy acknowledges the high quality of provision within the Further Education sector. The 157 Group believes that the Further and Higher Education offer in Colleges is very attractive to international learners and has an active network of professionals seeking to expand our international operations in innovative ways.

"As well as recruiting international students to study a wide range of responsive education and training programmes in this country, many 157 Group Colleges are also active overseas, with centres and operations in places as diverse as China and Nigeria. The work they do there importantly supports the development of local skills and capacity, as well as contributing enormously to the raising of the reputation of UKplc's education system, and we are pleased to see that the government believes this is worthy of attention and investment.

"We will be working closely with BIS ministers and officials in the coming months to ensure that FE Colleges are at the heart of delivering this new, long-term and collaborative strategy."
