Angela O'Donoghue is Principal of City of Sunderland College which is the only college in the City and has over 4,500 16-19 year old students and 8,000 adult learners. It provides education for 16-19 year olds through four sixth forms and vocational education at its Shiney Row Centre and its Hylton Skills Campus. It provides significant adult programmes in college, up-skilling for those in employment, and has a significant Higher Education portfolio.
The college also works internationally in a number of countries including China, Vietnam, India and Malaysia. As Principal of the college, Angela plays a significant role within the City and the region. She is a member of the Education Leadership Board, the Sunderland Partnership, the Children's Trust Strategic Partnership and the Sunderland Learning Partnership. She is a governor of the University of Sunderland and a member of the North East Region Equality & Diversity Steering Group.
She has a national reputation for her work with students with learning difficulties and disabilities and basic skills and is a member of the AOC Board. Angela is committed to providing students of all ages with the opportunity to undertake education and training in order to improve their employment prospects and enhance and develop local communities, taking forward developments in the college which will underpin the economic regeneration of the City. The college is a key strategic partner in the City and the region and makes a significant contribution to the economic regeneration of the City and the region.
