157 Group publishes Neets case studies and QCF discussion paper
The 157 Group has published a set of case studies about young people who are not in education, employment or training (Neet) and a discussion paper about the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF). The case studies offer examples of how 157 Group colleges are working to help young people, improving their life chances and future economic well-being. The QCF discussion paper, funded by the Learning and Skills Improvement Service (LSIS), arises from the participation of 157 Group colleges in a project designed to support the introduction of the QCF, and articulates some of the colleges' concerns about the effective implementation of the new framework.
Kate Green, director of partnerships and employer engagement at the 157 Group, said, "These publications reflect the proactive and determined spirit of our colleges in delivering positive solutions and achieving success. Our discussion paper demonstrates our commitment to using our collective knowledge and experience, not only to lead policy development but to challenge and confront emerging issues from the QCF.
"Both publications exemplify our colleges' responsive and decisive actions to ensure that learners' needs are being met. In particular, our Neets case studies demonstrate our colleges' continuing abilities to work effectively with employers and the local community to deliver an education that is effective and can help lift young people into a prosperous and successful future."
Frank McLoughlin CBE, chair of the 157 Group and principal of City and Islington College, said, "These publications complement one another; the Neets studies show best practice in our colleges and how their hard work delivers education and skills in difficult circumstances, while the QCF discussion paper demonstrates the 157 Group's foresight and strength in delivering collaborative action research that is current and on-trend. "At a time of uncertainty and challenge for our colleges, these publications reinforce how we put our learners first and that, above all, we have the ability to provide innovative, flexible and positive outcomes."
The seven case studies about young people who are Neet feature:
• City of Bristol College
• Derby College
• Leeds City College
• Newcastle College
• St Helen's College
• Sussex Downs' College
• York College.
The case studies are available to download in PDF format from the 157 Group website at http://www.157group.co.uk/neets and the discussion paper at http://www.157group.co.uk/157-group-policy-papers
